Arreau is a small town situated at the confluence of two valleys, the Aure and the Louron. The town's location, between the Aspin and Peyresourde mountain passes, and the advent of thermal spas have meant Arreau has been a tourist destination since the 19th century.
In the winter when Arreau puts on its snowy coat, skiing and snowshoeing take over. There are 3 ski resorts not far from Arreau: Peyragudes, Val Louron, and Saint Lary. It is only a 20-minute drive to any of these 3 resorts and a train service (tickets needed) serves the Saint Lary slopes twice per day.
